International Yoga Day 2017 has been celebrated at PMI on 21.06.2017. All employees of PMI, Executive Trainees and participants of various other training programmes have actively taken part in the programme.


Digital Learning at NTPC

Online courses from Harvard ManageMentor has been launched by Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC along with Shri Saptarshi Roy, Director (HR), NTPC on 29.04.2017 through video conferencing. Participants from sites and corporfate centre have joined the successful launching event.

Prof Vijay Govindarajan as a speaker at NTPC PMI

Jan 13, 2017. NTPC Power Management Institute (PMI) organised a lecture on the topic “Strategy is Innovation” by Prof Vijay Govindarajan who is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on strategy and innovation. Presently he is Distinguished Professor at Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business. In the 2013 Thinkers 50 Rankings, he was ranked the #5th Management Thinker in The World. His session was very well received and about 500 participants attended the session in Saraswati auditorium of PMI. CMD, D(O), D(HR) and other senior executives of NTPC also attended the session. The session was also telecasted live to all projects and stations of NTPC. This program was part of NTPC PMI Eminent Speaker Series wherein renowned speakers are invited to deliver lecture in PMI.

Training to Ministry of Defence Officials from Sultanate of Oman
NTPC PMI faculties delivered a three week program on "Gas Based Power Plant Operation" to Ministry of Defence Officials from Sultanate of Oman.
The program was delivered at ABB Aldar HQ Abu Dhabi. This was the sixth in series of programs being delivered by NTPC faculty for Engineers of GCC Nations.
Convocation of first batch of NTPC School of Business
The first convocation of NTPC School of Business (NSB) was held in its campus at PMI on 3rd Dec, 2016. 17 students of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Executive), PGDM (E) of Batch 2015-16 were convocated on the occasion. Shri P K Pujari, IAS, Secretary (Power), GOI awarded the certificates and meritorious medals to the students in the presence of Shri Gurdeep Singh, Chairman of NSB Governing Board, Shri Saptarshi Roy, President of NTPC Education and Research Society, Shri A K Bhatnagar, Head NSB and Shri G C Tripathi, Dy. Director General, NSB.

NTPC-PMI Eminent Speaker Series

NTPC Ltd.’s Power Management Institute (NTPC-PMI) launched its Eminent Speaker Series on 1st December, 2016 with a talk on “Mechanics of Leadership” by the renowned yogi, mystic and New York Times bestselling author Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. The audience comprised of over 10,000 NTPC employees and their families through video conferencing at 58 projects, stations and regional offices of NTPC spread across the country, and local audience of over 500 persons inside Saraswati Auditorium at NTPC-PMI, which included Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD/NTPC, Shri A.K.Jha, Director (Technical)/NTPC, Shri K.Biswal, Director (Finance)/NTPC, Shri Saptarshi Roy, Director (HR)/NTPC, other dignitaries and senior officials of NTPC

In his talk, Sadhguru emphasized upon the importance of finding inner happiness within oneself by managing one’s own self first through integrity, insight, inspiration and dynamism, in order to be able to manage others. He stated that for people to look up to somebody as their leader, that person must set right his own inner being and radiate life. For corporate executives, his message was to tweak their competence instead of activities. The audience heard Sadhguru with rapt admiration.

MoU for Training between NTPC-PMI and The Tata Power Company Ltd. (Tata Power)

NTPC Ltd.’s Power Management Institute (NTPC-PMI) and The Tata Power Company Ltd. (Tata Power) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for continuous learning and training to be provided by NTPC-PMI for enhancement of competencies and skills of the employees of Tata Power.

The MoU was signed at PMI, Noida on Friday, 23rd September, 2016 by Shri Ajit K. Bhatnagar, Executive Director, NTPC-PMI and Shri Ashok S.Sethi, COO & Executive Director, Tata Power, in the presence of Shri U.P.Pani, Director (HR & Commercial), NTPC, Shri Sanjeev Mehra, CEO & MD, Tata Power Trading Co., Dr.Jayant Kumar, Chief-HR, Tata Power, and senior officials from NTPC and Tata Power.

The objective of the MoU is to provide an assured framework for cooperation between both the organizations. PMI, which has proven expertise in the field of training and development, will prepare a training plan for all executives of Tata Power to cater to their learning and, skills customization and enhancement. Based on the training plan, Tata Power executives will be imparted training by NTPC-PMI on various technical and managerial aspects.


Interaction with students of NSB (NTPC School of Business)

An interaction session was held on 23/09/2016 for participants of second batch of PGDM (E) program with Sh. U. P Pani, Director (HR & Commercial), NTPC and Delegates of Tata Power. The students were advised by Mr. Ashok Sethi, Director and COO, Tata Power to be vigilant and ready for the expected transformation of the entire energy value chain; which may be compared to a T20 cricket match. He wished good luck to the batch and requested them to acquire leadership skills lo lead Indian economy, especially energy sector.

Safety Management Initiatives in Leadership Effectiveness

In line with our motto of Safety First and Safety Must a two-day workshop titled Safety Management Initiatives in Leadership Effectiveness was organized by PMI in association with Corporate Safety Department on 7th and 8th September at PMI, Noida. This program was inaugurated by our CMD Sh. Gurdeep Singh in presence of Director (HR) Sh. U.P. Pani, Director (Projects) Sh. S.C. Pandey, Director (Operations) Sh. K. K. Sharma and other senior executives. The senior management team of NTPC comprising Regional Executive Directors, Executive Directors and Heads of Project participated in the event. The Workshop was facilitated by senior consultants from DuPont, which is internationally recognized for providing Safety Management Solutions. The two-day event concluded on 8th September evening with Action Plan presentation by participants before our CMD Sh. Gurdeep Singh, Director (Technical) Sh.A.K.Jha, Director (Projects) Sh.S.C.Pandey and Director (Operations) Sh. K.K.Sharma. The senior management team which participated in the event expressed their strong commitment to take the Safety Initiative forward Company-wide under their leadership.

Golden Peacock Award

PMI gets the prestigious “Golden Peacock National Training Award” for the year 2016. The award is instituted by the Institute of Directors, a very prestigious body having eminent persons from the fields of industry, government and judiciary as members of its Executive Council to identify excellence in training practices at the organization as a whole. This award is considered a significant achievement in the field of excellence in Training by providing a role model in business. The award was announced on 24th March 2016 by the awards Jury under chairmanship of Justice M.N. Venkatchaliah, former Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India. The award has been presented at a specially organized Golden Peacock ceremony  on Wednesday, 20th April 2016, in Dubai.


ASSOCHAM Award 2015-16

NTPC has been conferred the prestigious Gold Trophy & Certificate of Merit of “ASSOCHAM Award 2015-16” and adjudged “Best PSU” in implementing vocational training programmes in PSU Category. The Award was received by Shri U. P. Pani, Director (HR) from Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship & Parliamentary Affairs on 15th March, 2016 in august gathering in “Summit-cum-Award on Skilling India” in New Delhi organised by ASSOCHAM. The award has been conferred to NTPC for its performance and outstanding contribution for last 03 years (FY 2012-13, 2013-14 & 2014-15) towards society in Skill Development area through its adopted Govt. ITIs and setting up new ITIs. NTPC has adopted 18 existing Govt. ITIs and setting up 08 new ITIs in different parts of country spanning in 16 states. In addition to this, NTPC is implementing employment linked Skill Development Projects to provide vocational training in various skill sets/ sectors to 30000 youths through Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
