Event Title Developments In Renewable Energy Technologies
Programme Overview
and Objective
With the fast depleting coal and oil resources and its associated environmental threats, we need to explore alternate technologies of power generation. Renewable energy (RE) is being perceived as an alternative source of energy for “Energy Security” and subsequently “Energy Independence” by 2020. Renewable energy technologies provide not only electricity but offer an environmentally clean source of power.
NTPC plans to broad base generation mix by evaluating conventional and non-conventional sources of energy to ensure long run competitiveness and mitigate fuel risks. But these technologies are still in the development stage and higher cost of generation is the main deterrent for wide use of technologies. Globally a lot of research work is going in this area and these technologies are improving and becoming more and more cost effective day by day.

At the end of the programme, the participants shall be able to-

  • Define the need for alternate technologies in power generation.
  • Analyse different renewable technology option like Wind power, Solar  Thermal Power, Solar PV Power, Biomass, Fuel cell etc.
  • Analyse the economics of power generation with alternate power generation technologies.
